Alboraia (Valencia)

Alboraia is a city of population 24.000, located 3 km from the city of Valencia, where agriculture is the main economic activity. Many alquerías (the traditional countryside houses by the fields) are still used as storage houses.
It also has its own window overlooking the Mediterranean sea at La Patacona beach.
Alboraia (Alboraya in Spanish) is the most popular town producer of tiger nuts and horchata in the Region of Valencia. In order to credit the high quality of this product, a specific label was created to certify the origin of the product and testify to its quality. This label, known as (DO)Designation of Origin Chufa of Valencia.
The chufa is cultivated in nineteen Valencian towns in the L’Horta Nord area, where a few concrete climatic requirements are assembled and turns it into the only zone of Spain where so singular tuber is cultivated. About 5.3 million kilograms of tigernut are produced in this area, of which 90% are covered by the denomination of origin.

“Horchata Tour, Valencia”
With this Horchata Tour we are going to enjoy a complete immersion in the culture of horchata and chufas or tigernuts. We will visit a cambra where the tigernuts are stored, washed and dried after recollection in order to be processed to become horchata. We will also visit the fields where the tigernuts are growing and harvested and finally we will enjoy a delicious meal based on traditional gastronomy of the region.

Alquería Sequer Lo Blanch is a family business born with the main aim of boosting the traditional cultivation procedures of Valencian tigernuts or chufas. It is located in the middle of the orchard of Valencia, in Alboraia.
