Xert (Castellón)
Xert is a town with a population of around 900, located 60km north of the province of Castellón, with a population of around 900 in the county of Baix Maestrat.
The town of Sant Mateu is the capital of the historic land of Baix Maestrat, to the north of the province of Castellon. Because of its historic-artistic importance, the city centre was declared a Cultural Object.
This historic town with lands full of olive and almond orchards, and cereal fields, were ruled by the Order of Montesa in the Middle Ages.
The arcaded main square, or Plaza Mayor, is an exceptional starting point to explore the numerous streets that begin there. One of the most typical images of this town is the hexagonal tower of the archpriestal church
Agri-food Cooperative
The agri-food cooperative of Xert, funded en 1964, counts with 400 associates and is a pioneer in the packaging of olive oil from the millenary olive trees .
Tour
“Millenary Olive Trees from Xert”
With this tour we will discover the millenary culture of the olive trees from Xert in Alicante. We will visit the agri-food cooperative of Xert to learn more about the millenary olive trees which give one of the best olive oils. We will go to the fields to see the olive trees in first person and then we will enjoy a meal based on traditional gastronomy of the region. Afterwards we will transfer to San Mateu to have a guided cultural tour.
