Artichoke from Benicarló (Castellón)

This excursion is a tribute to the artichoke and its producers, the farmers who have won national and international awards, thanks to the high quality obtained with their work in the fields. The artichoke of Benicarló, claims to be a vegetable with a Protected Designation of Origin, as well as to be very healthy since it’s considered that it produces a favorable effect on the functions of liver kidneys.
This excursion is unique because of multiple reasons: firstly, we will be able to coincide with the gastronomic events, organized by the Town Hall of Benicarló, in which we will be able to participate in first person and, secondly, we will have the opportunity of visiting a field of artichokes, where a local farmer will explain us all the processes, the cares and the curiosities about this cultivation.
As would be expected, for lunch, we will eat a menu inspired by the artichoke, and to end the excursion, we will have a cultural walking tour in Vinaroz, capital of the county of Baix Maestrat.
One of the particularities of this town is that its old town is right in front of the sea. We will get lost walking through the small alleys of the city center, such as Calle Mayor or Calle Socors, and we will discover all the most important monuments as the Assumption Church, the central market or the Saint Telmo Church.

Benihort is the Agricultural Cooperative of Benicarló. Aside from the traditional activities of fruit and vegetables processing, the selling of supplies or the production of olive oil are developing as well the creation of other commercial areas such as the selling of seeds and the marketing of their own products in their own grocery stores: the Benihort Supermarkets.
