The town of Ontinyent is about 82 kilometres from the city of Valencia and due to the spectacular rural landscapes given by the cultivation of grapes, olives and almods this area is popularly called wineries Valencian Tuscany.
Ontinyent old town has been declared Property of Cultural Interest. Its unique aesthetic is due to the contrast resulting from its stately 18th century mansions and the more modest Valencian buildings from the late 18th century and early 19th century.
It is worth visiting the Iglesia de Santa María (Church of Saint Mary), with its 71 meter tall bell tower and its magnificent Renaissance portal. Ontinyent counts with an interesting theme museum about the Moors and Christians Festival, held each August, and one of the most important in the Valencia Region.
Ontinyent is the centre of the Valencian textile industry which was and still is one of the centres os its economy.
Hiking is another interesting tourist option in Ontinyent where there are trails starting at the town that reveal its rich natural surroundings.
