Rice Tour. Albufera Natural Park (Valencia)

During this tour we will learn why rice farming is particularly important in Valencia and why it is closely linked to the survival of the Albufera. The rice production from the Parque Natural Albufera counts with the Designation of Origin «Arroz de Valencia». It is a quality figure emerges a collaboration between the Department of Agriculture, Valencian rice farmers and industries Valencia; to promote and protect rice cultivation in traditional wetlands and promote the consumption of rice covered under this label.
We will visit the place where the rice is stored and we will discover all the procedures the farmers follow depending on the season. Later we will walk around the fields to experience firsthand how the fields look like and which are the particularities of this cereal.
We will visit the surroundings of Albufera Natural Park and will enjoy the beautiful sightseeing given by its flora and fauna.
We will finish the tour enjoying together a delicious paella which had its origins in the rice fields of the Albufera

Agri-food Cooperative

Cooperativa Valenciana del Camp «Unió Cristiana”, is an Agri-food cooperative founded in 1903 and nowadays counts with around 4000 associates. This is one of the pioneer agri-food cooperatives in the Region of Valencia taking care of its farmers and the cultivation of rice following the traditional methods.

Destination

The Albufera is a freshwater lake and estuary on the Gulf of Valencia coast of the Valencia Region. It is the main portion of the Albufera Natural Park, with a surface area of 21,120 hectares (52,200 acres). The natural biodiversity of the nature reserve allows a great variety of fauna and flora to thrive and be observed year-round.
