Planes, Alcoi (Alicante)

Planes is a town of around 900 inhabitants in the north of the province of Alicante. It was build around a muslim castle (XII C.) and surrounded by a beautiful valley. The area conserves the remains of an aqueduct (Bridges for conveying water).
Alcoy also called “the city fo the bridges” because it counts with more tan 20 and that feature is one of the emblems of the city. The bridges of the Viaduct of Canalejas and Saint Jorges´ are the most important.
The square of Plaza de España is the nerve centre of the city. In the medieval quarter there are important buildings like the old City Hall, the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of the Festivities of Moors and Christians. Around San Nicolás street, there is the Modernist part of town. Its historic center has been declared of Cultural Interest.
The festivities of Moors and Christians, which honour the patron saint San Jorge, are celebrated in Alcoy during the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of April; this «fiesta» is rooted in tradition, and commemorates the historical events of the 13th century.

Agri-food Cooperative

The Agrifood cooperative of Planes concentrates its production mainly on cherry fruits. It also produces olives and some ecological products.
Their cherries count with the Authentication of Alicante’s Mountain cherries protected designation.

Tour

“Cherry Blossom Tour and Alcoi”
With this tour we will learn why cherry trees are so elegant that they become a regional indicator symbol of their areas.
During springtime they offer a marvelous view of the beautiful cherry blossoms.
Later , we will move to the city of Alcoy to enjoy a guided tour around the old town declared of Cultural Interest. We will finish the tour with a typical lunch in Alcoy.
